Designed in conjunction with Xtracycle - the masters of cargo bikes, Surly's Big Dummy is designed to carry a lot of stuff easily, and that’s just what it does. Haul groceries, work materials, pets and even humans - just about anything else you’d normally carry in a car.
The Big Dummy's got an upper weight limit of 400 pounds (180kg) total rider and cargo weight, which is more than most people can comfortably pedal with, especially when hills are involved.
That's where the  legendary Bionx system comes in. We install a high torque 350 watt motor in the rear wheel to instantly amplify your pedal strokes, compensate for cargo and level out the hills.

Xtracycle's revolutionary V-Rack Bag is a highly adaptable pannier system capable of swallowing a wide variety of cargo. Refined over the years, The V-Rack Bag includes an large inner velcro pocket and small zippered mesh pocket. The Big Dummy incorporates the proven Xtracycle "Freeradical" design into its frame, so it's fully compatible with the wide range of accessories made for the Freeradical platform.
A Bionx Big Dummy rides a bit different than a normal bike, due in large part to its long wheelbase, but a couple of trips to the store is all it should take to convince you that this bike is not only exceptionally useful, but a fun and practical alternative to the automobile.
