The
Electriccross Drift high-performance motocross bike delivers
three times more power than a Honda CRF150 and weighs 100
pounds less. The Drift is not for kids but it is a toy -
a high torque, high-speed, off-road toy that literally leaves
the gas-powered competition in the dust.
The
Electricross Drift's neck-snapping torque and air-catching
speed is courtesy of a 19+ horsepower (14,400 watt) Briggs
and Stratton Etek motor and a programmable
controller from Alltrax.
A quick-change power pack that delivers up to 600 amps and
an ultra-light handcrafted aluminum frame complete a motocross
package that is going to change the face of dirt racing
forever.

Motocross
riders beware: You won't hear this bike rocketing up behind
you so try not to freak out when the Drift zips by like
you were standing still.
The
Drift is an intermediate sized bike for young adult and
adult riders that is small enough to be carried in a SUV
or on a hitch rack. The size is similar to a Honda CRF150
(but with 3 times the power). With a top speed of 44 mph,
it comes as no surprise that the Electrocross Drift is not
street legal.

Briggs
and Stratton Etek Permanent Magnet Motor
The Drift features the amazing Briggs and Stratton Etek motor,
a revolutionary brushed permanent magnet motor. It uses one-tenth
the steel and one-half the copper in comparison to a conventional
DC motor and it is one-half the size of competitive motors. The
Etek has been used in electric vehicles like the world famous
Jackal for several years and has proven to be reliable and able
to handle over 19 horsepower. The brushes last a very long time
and they are easily replaceable.
Programmable
Controllers
The brains of the Drift is a fully programmable controller. You
have your choice of a 300+ amp controller or a 400+ amp controller.
Both of these controllers will deliver power spikes of 600 amps
to the motor. That's tire smoking, wheelie inducing power. Parameters
such as throttle response, maximum speed and maximum current are
fully adjustable. You can connect to your PC via a USB or serial
cable and you can adjust the settings yourself.
Batteries:
Quick-Change Power Pack
A unique feature of the Drift is its "quick change"
system. Nobody wants to wait around for a dead battery to charge.
It also makes racing more competitive since everyone can swap
to a fresh pack after each heat.
Even though
the power pack is easy to remove, it is fully perimeter protected
for safety. The Quick-Change system allows a variety of battery
types to be used because of its modular design.
Sealed
Lead Acid (SLA) EV Batteries
SLA power packs are great for motocross track riding where you
can easily swap power packs. Each battery pack contains four 12-volt
sealed lead acid batteries specially designed for use in electric
vehicles.
Lithium
Power Packs
Lithium Ion power pack that will double the range are also available.
They also weight 30 pounds less. These batteries are capable of
extremely high discharge rates (60c pulse), 100% discharges and
yet they have an extremely high cycle life of 1000 charges. Great
for long trail rides.
Two
ways to charge the Drift
Quad Charger
When you use a single charger on a four battery power pack, the
batteries do not charge evenly. One battery is always overcharged
and one battery is always undercharged. To solve this problem,
the Drift uses a Quad Charger that is made up of four individual
chargers. Each battery is separately monitored and charged to
optimal levels greatly increasing the cycle life of a typical
power pack. Each charger is a small and efficient switch mode
charger. Don't let the size fool you, each unit puts out 6 amps
and automatically switches to trickle charge when the battery
is near full.
Fast Charger
There are times when you need to charge the batteries fast. Electricross
offers a Fast Charge Power Pack and a Fast Charger to go with
it. This is a very good three stage charger that automatically
switches to trickle charge when the battery is near full. The
cost is more, but if you don't want to deal with lifting the extra
batteries in and out, this is a good solution. If you alternately
charge with the Fast Charger and the Quad Charger you can extend
the cycle life of the more expensive Fast Charge Power Pack. Note
that the Fast Charger can ONLY be used with the Fast Charge Power
Pack. However, the Quad Charger Bank can be used on either pack.
